Cultural Diveristy Week: Totems for everyone

To introduce Cultural Diversity Week, we began with our Totem’s activity as Prep B discovered through research that they exist in many cultures. So we decided to create our own classroom totem as we have our own values and culture that we wanted to be represented and be made known to all by having a statue consisting of something created by each of us. As we have been learning our shapes, we used a variety of different shapes and layers to make our totems. Make sure you check them out in the classroom – they are standing proud bordering our science area.

Rr is for rockets blasting off

Ready, set, GO! Prep B raced to complete their rockets today as they learnt the sound /r/. We built up our resilience as we crafted our delicate rockets, however once we followed the step-by-step instructions, we achieved great victory with creating our very own rockets. Did you know that if you have a red racing stripe on the side, your rocket goes even faster? Because we do!

Great gardeners!

Prep A are enjoying watching our bean plants grow. They are getting super tall now. The students made sure they are looking after their plants by giving them a little water regularly.

Cued Articulation

The Preps have been busy learning the ‘Cued Articulation’ cues for each letter sound. Each cue is a signal that demonstrates how the sound of the letter is made. It is important for children to be able to hear sounds in words in order to read and spell. Below you will find an example of the sound that each letter of the alphabet makes. I would like to encourage you to watch this video often with your child and use the cues when discussing letter sounds when reading and writing at home.
