Narre Warren North Primary have adopted the CAFE Reading program to engage and focus students on quality reading. The focus is not just on reading the words but reading as thinking.
CAFE is an acronym which stands for:
C: Comprehension (understanding what we read)
A: Accuracy (Reading the words correctly)
F: Fluency (Rate and expression when reading)
E: Expanding vocabulary (learning the meaning of unknown words)
Each section in CAFE is just as important as each other. For a student to pass a level they must show high understanding of the text, read the words accurately, read at a smooth rate and with expression and understand the meaning of the words they read. There are many strategies to help a student achieve their goals and your children will receive a strategy to practice at school and at home. Below are the strategies we will be focusing on from Prep to Grade 2:
