Artist in Residence

On Monday, Prep B undertook their first Artist in Residence incursion. They learned many new skills in freely contributing to the whole school project of creating a mosaic in the BER area. To say that the children loved it would be an understatement. Here’s a snippet of Monday’s session.

3D Shapes and Team Work!

In Prep C we have been learning about 3D shapes and their characteristics. The children have learned the names of 3D shapes, as well as how to tell the difference between 2D and 3D shapes. They have also learned how to recognise edges and corners on the shapes. Today, we worked together with a partner to make a 3D cube with paddle-pop sticks and playdough. The children helped each other to problem solve and work out the best way to create the shape. It was fantastic to see them working together so well!3D_shapes

Apple Pizzas!

Over the last three weeks, the Prep children have been involved in Language Experience activities, designed to give them hands on encounters in the areas of Cooking, Science and Craft, to further develop their vocabulary and knowledge of different topics. This develops their general knowledge and helps them when reading to relate to characters, events or information. They can also use the new words they have learned in their writing or conversations with others.

In Prep C, we have been making Apple Pizzas. If you want to make them too, here are the ingredients we used but you can have whatever toppings you like!

  • Apples that have been cored and sliced
  • Peanut butter or jam
  • Sultanas
  • Coconut
  • Chocolate chips

Step 1: Spread peanut butter or jam or both on your apple.

Step 2: Put the toppings you like onto the apple.

Step 3: Eat and enjoy!

Writing and Posting Letters

This term, with Mrs Arshad’s help, we learnt how to write personal letters to our friends and family. We were taught how a personal letter starts and how to end it. We wrote a letter to someone special and walked down to the Post Office to post it. We really enjoyed it and hope that our special person will write back to us soon! Thank you to the parents for providing the envelopes and stamps.post_office

PMP Parent helpers

As Term 3 draws to a close, Prep B would like to say a huge thank you to our FANTASTIC Parent Helpers who graciously volunteer their Wednesday mornings and expert knowledge to assist us in developing our Perceptual Motor skills. Jackie, Cathy, Sam and Amanda have faultlessly been there to support the children with the extra amazing assistance of Sally, Kirsty F. And Kristy P.

We truly appreciate your weekly efforts and can’t wait for what Term 4 has install.

Inquiry presentations

As part of our Information and Communication Technology studies, the Preps have been learning to safely navigate Google Images in order to research a topic. Recently, they have worked in partners to discuss their contrasting and comparative observations of an African animal. Once achieved, the pair presented their findings to the class and answered some questions from their classmates. The children thoroughly enjoyed their roles of both investigator and teacher.

Father’s Day Morning

On Friday 4th of September, the Prep children held a very special Father’s Day morning. The Dads were invited to join the children in completing construction activities in the Multi Purpose Room. They built amazing creations out of boxes, tubes and masking tape. Buildings were built out of lego and blocks. Fantastic train lines were constructed and there were some creative mobilo cars made. Everyone was busy and engaged. It was so lovely to see and the experience meant a lot to the children. Thank you to all of the Dads who came. We hope you enjoyed yourselves and have a great Father’s Day!

Science and Maths Day

During Science and Maths Day, the Prep children were involved in a Science rotation where they did different science experiments in each Prep room. When they came to Prep C, we learnt about how to make bubble mixture and we experimented with making a bubble wand. The children were encouraged to test, improve and try different things if they weren’t getting the bubbles they desired. Like true scientists, they did not give up on achieving the outcome and were willing to take risks and try new things.

If you would like to make your own bubble mixture at home, here is the recipe we used at school:

1 litre hot water

I cup of dishwashing liquid

3-4 tablespoons of glycerin

Happy bubble blowing!

Science/Maths Day

On Wednesday 2nd of September, the children of Narre Warren North came to school dressed as Mathematicians and Scientists. There were vets, doctors, nurses, paleontologists, calculators, dice and many more interesting characters to be seen, even Dr Bruce Banner aka the Hulk. It was a great day to think about what we might be when we grow up and to see how the things we are learning in school can be used in lots of different jobs.

Fire safety revisited – Dressing up

Today we were very fortunate to have the surprise visit from Max’s dad, Sam – a firefighter. He informed us about the material of his uniform and how heavy it is, as well as discussing the functions of each piece of safety equipment. The children were happy to share their understanding of fire safety learned at Safety School early this year – “we run to the letterbox” says Mason, in case of a fire, and were enthusiastic to ask in depth questions of Sam pertaining to his job and his attire. It was then that Sam asked the kids if they would like to try on his uniform…check out the new firefighters of NWNPS.

Thank you again Sam, for your time and interesting information about your uniform and profession. I think the photos speak for themselves as to how much fun we can have when learning.
