Responsible Pet Ownership Incursion

Today we had Summer come and visit us at school. She is our new four legged friend who was teaching us all about:

The children loved it! Some of us were invited to even practise our new skills of how to approach an unknown dog with Summer. Check us out!

Colour Fun Run

Thank you, thank you, thank you! We, in Pre B would like to say a BIG thank you to those who supported us in the Colour Fun Run this week. We all did a fantastic job and should be very proud of ourselves as we pushed ourselves to try and complete the race. Whilst some of us were a little nervous about the colour ‘paint’, we found out it was all just a bit of fun.

Check out our rockin’ sunnies 🙂

Cultural Diversity Week: Harmony Day

As part of Cultural Diversity Week, our school acknowledged Harmony Day, which looks to promote

inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belongingness

for anyone and everyone. We live in such a multicultural society, where Australia celebrates an invidual’s freedom with cultural and religious choices. To celebrate the globes’ cultural mappings, Prep B wore a colourful array of traditional and modern garments in respect for many countries.

Celebrating Cultural Diversity

During Week 8, the Preps have been celebrating cultural diversity by exploring countries around the world. We decided to focus mainly on countries that represent the cultural backgrounds of our students.

Day 1: Holland/The Netherlands and Totem Poles (many different countries)

Showing off our math skills

Recently, the Preps have been learning ‘Friends of 10’. In other words,

1+9=10

2+8=10

3+7=10

4+6=10

5+5=10

and reversed 6+4=10, etc.  Prep B was so excited that they were finally ‘doing’ addition – once we practise what Miss Coon requested, they were given the space and time to be experts to ‘show off’ their addition skills that they already know.

We love it when the Preps are eager to learn and are practising number patterns, number skills, sight words, and writing, etc. at home. Sometimes it is hard to explain to them why the teachers aren’t teaching certain content straight away, and the answer is, because there is so much we need to learn before it to make our learning strong, better, and more adaptable. We want the children to have a sound understanding of the skills we teach before we move on leaving no gaps to chance.

Keep encouraging the munchkins to practise their skills, and foster their love of learning, but let them know that there is a reason for the pace in which we teach.Â
