EASTER BUNNY!

Oh my goodness! Who left a mess in our room? Luckily it was a chocolate mess and the children were more than happy to collect the eggs left by the Easter Bunny! We couldn’t believe our luck. We decided to count our eggs but we stopped half way to make a prediction about how many eggs there were. Well we were given a total of… You will never believe it… We received a total of 1 hundred and 68 Easter eggs! Luckily we can count by 10’s so it didn’t take us all day to count them.

U is for underpants!

Shhh its a secret if you didn’t already know ‘u’ is for underpants. Today prep A worked u u under the table to decorate their u u underpants! Then we tried them on over the top of our u u uniform! Oh did you notice ‘u’ makes a long and short sound? Well we did! Now we look like real superheroes with our underpants!

Students or Teachers?

Prep A are becoming very confident with their learning. Today they decided to teach each other about how to sound out words. The student teachers encouraged their peers to use their arm to help break up the sounds in the words. It is very exciting to see how confident and independent the students are becoming with their learning. Well done!

Racing Car Races!

Prep A have been learning about ordinal number. We raced around the basketball court, then sat lined up in our positions of finishing the race. The other students needed to give us our Ordinal number. Hmmm did we put them in the right order? I wonder!

Professor Maths!

Professor Maths visited Prep with the right formula. He entertained  100% of the students with a large fraction of the students wanting him to remainder for the whole day! The triple prep classes had the power with hands on learning to understand concepts of mathematics. Our visit had the precision of learning intentions that balanced our power of positive number challenges, filling the room with constant excitement!

Challenging our brains with puzzles made us count on each other with balancing our ideas and thoughts while working in small groups having equal thoughts and ideas to create our own shared success. We all had a positive and awesome experience!

Rhyming words

Prep A have been busy rhyming words to help us with reading and writing. The students had to find their rhyming word partner, listening very hard to match the ending sounds. We are really improving with this.

2015 PREP BBQ!

On Friday the 20th of February the Prep’s held their exciting annual family BBQ. Parents, students, family and friends came together to celebrate being part of our school and the prep team. The smell of sausages could be smelt from afar as Mr Wight and VOLUNTEER  cooked up a sensational BBQ. The Prep teachers became very popular when handing out ice poles to the younger students and guests on the very hot evening. Parents and friends mingled as rich conversations help build new friendships and reunite old. This was even more exciting to find out that this year’s prep BBQ had the best ever turn out with around 200 guests uniting to help celebrate the evening.  Miss Vandervoort was delighted to see everyone participate in the “getting to know you” scavenger hunt and said this was a highlight of her evening getting to know more about her new and current exciting students and families. A very big thank to our PFC as this night couldn’t have been possible without your help.

Thank-you to our Buddies!

The prep students have been enjoying the moments spent with their buddies. They have bonded while eating, chatting and playing  together in the playground each day.  This has been a nurturing process where the prep students are able to settle into their new school environment feeling safe knowing there is an older student looking out for them. Friday was the last day our buddies will visit us each day, however we will still see them on a regular basis. Many more buddy activities are coming our way! Here the students came together to discuss the school’s 5 golden rules. Together with their buddies the preps reinforced their knowledge of the schools rules and drew pictures of how we could follow them safely. Thank you buddies for making our first moments at school a memorable part of our prep journey.

Learning our letters and Sounds!

The prep students have been busy learning all about the letters of the alphabet. We have explored S, M, T and A. The students discovered that the letter A makes two sounds. This took their learning to a deeper level where they became advocates for their own learning, adding words that they brainstormed together on our evolving word wall. Students had the opportunity to strengthen their understanding of both letter A sounds through engaging experiences, creating memories that support our learning intentions.

Magic words

The children have been busy learning their Magic Words. We have been playing word  games, writing magic words, matching words and building magic words with alphabet rocks. Bingo is one of our favourite games to show the words we know and its even better when we are lucky enough to find them all and yell BINGO!
